David T. MacLeod
I had one day of business in Nova Scotia. That’s too far to travel from California for one meeting! So,being an avid hunter, I did some research on what I could hunt to make my trip worthwhile and more noteworthy. I quickly found that black bear was the only option for a late September hunt. I checked out many websites and Davids seem to be the most legit of them all. I’ve never booked a hunt solely based on a website, so I called Dave and felt confident that he would be the best outfitter for a Nova Scotia black bear hunt. I WAS RIGHT!
Bear season for 2013 delivered a 100% success rate! One of the highlights was guiding our first female rifle hunter, a 68 yr old visiting from New Jersey. Pat had tried hunting big game before coming to Nova Scotia. Her excitement after getting her first bear was an unforgettable experience.
Be sure to see Farmland Outfitters on the ‘Best of Bull Run’ airing on Wild TV or the Sportsman Channel on Feb 14 at 6:30 pm, Feb 16 at 3:30 am, Feb 17 at 8:30 am or Feb 19 at 11 pm (all Atlantic Time). Don’t miss watching this action packed bear hunting show with Farmland Outfitters and the first two female crossbow hunters ever to appear on the show. It will surely be entertaining!
Just wanted to thank you for the great time I enjoyed on a recent hunt with Farmland Outfitters. It was a long trip that was well worth it! After a two day ride from Florence, South Carolina with my hunting partner, Stan Yates, we settled in at the hotel. The food at the local restaurant was excellent. On the first day of our hunt I was able to harvest a nice black bear!
After a 1600 mile drive from South Carolina we arrived at the Masstowner Motel and checked in. David MacLeod was there within minutes and gave us the scoop on the 5 day hunt we had before us. We slept well on Sunday night and were rarin’ to go Monday. It rained during the hunt, but my huntin’ buddy Mike Blackmon managed to fill his tag the first day, about 5:30 PM. The pressure was on me now as I was the 10th hunter of Farmland Outfitter hunters for the season. All nine before me had bagged a Black Bear. David assured me I would have my opportunity.
Owner/Operator David MacLeod with co-host Amie of Best of Bull Run with her bear she took this fall with Farmland Outfitters
Farmland Outfitters runs a first class operation and put our team on bears consistently. Dave MacLeod has Nova Scotia bruin dialed in on speed dial. Thanks for putting us over some great bears just as you promised and helping Amy get Nova Scotia’s first ladies crossbow kill.
Best Of Bull Run
Another exceptional year for Farmland Outfitters with 12 clients in total with a 100% percent on seeing a shooter bear on baits. 11 out of the 12 clients took bears and one crossbow hunter saw the bear of a lifetime and couldn’t get the shot she needed and refused to use the rifle.
The film crew from Nova Scotia’s hit series Best of Bull Run also took a nice bear and will be back next season to take a monster bear that Candace watched at 15 yards but couldn’t get the shot she needed on him this year with the crossbow. The TV show will air early in 2012 on Wild TV here in Canada and the Sportsman channel in the USA. So watch for the show that is packed with lots of exciting footage. You can pay for the whole seat but you will only need the edge with regular guest Amie taking her first ever big game animal.
Owner of Farmland Outfitters and friend Mark, with 25 lb tom with a 8 ½ inch beard
Traveled to New York for May 1st opening day turkey season for my second time. My first trip a few years earlier turned out to be a great experience filling my two spring turkey tags. Shooting two jakes, which I felt was great for my first trip.
This trip my intenseness was to hold out for bigger birds. Well I wasn’t disappointed. Opening morning seen one hen and had what we had thought was a mature tom by the actions of the turkey. We got him into about 60 yards but held up in a thorn thicket and never got a look at him.
Last November, the last week before thanksgiving I had yet another opportunity to travel to Nova Scotia to hunt with friends at Farmland Outfitters for deer, ducks & geese. There were no real plans set in place we would just decide the evening prior to the day of the hunt.
